About the Arcola Art Department

Susan Bass-Alston has been teaching for 35 years in the Methacton School District. Thirty-four of these years have been at Arcola in Room 112. Susan grew up and attended public school in New York City. She came to Philadelphia in 1968 to attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Susan completed her graduate work at the Tyler School of Art and Temple University.

Amy Shumaker has been teaching at Arcola Intermediate School for four years. Prior to teaching at Arcola, she taught in Neshaminy School district. Amy graduated from Penn State with a bachelors degree in Art Education and a minor in Art History. Amy Shumaker is currently taking graduate classes at the University of the Arts.

Sharon Buck graduated Summa Cum Laude from Towson University with a Bachelors Degree in Art with Painting as her concentration. Sharon attended graduate school at Gwynedd-Mercy College and earned her Masters Degree in Education. Sharon currently holds Pennsylvania Elementary Education and Art K-12 teaching certificates. This is Sharon's fourth year of teaching, as she had taught at the elementary level for three years in the private school sector prior to working at Arcola.
