At Arcola, our goal in the visual arts is to develop skills and techniques used in expressive activities while fostering an understanding and appreciation for cultural and historical influences. Students have art class for one of the four marking periods of the school year in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The 45 day marking period is broken down into three sessions consisting of approximately 15 days with three art teachers: Ms. Alston, Mrs. Buck, and Mrs. Shumaker. In each class, students explore a variety of media while learning about art history, art criticism, and art production.
